Live Simply

Over the years of establishing a home and permaculture farm, we have learned that if we don’t absolutely need something right now, it sure is worth praying about, looking for, and waiting for a used item.

We live simply. We have chosen to be a single income family so I can be home with our children. In our recent years, our precious son has been walking an intense road of healing from a neurological disorder. His therapy has been a full on investment. My husband has not worked nearly what he used to in order to be a significant part of our son’s healing and in order to support me on the hard days. So now we live even simpler than we ever have before.

What amazes us again and again is how faithfully our God provides for us. Here are a few ways we have been swept off of our feet by His kindness.

When we moved to our new property, there were no animal pens. Our chicken coop was free! It was advertised and even though more than 20 people wanted it, the gentleman chose us. Our goat house was a $450 house, the seller sold it to us for $110. Our kitchen sink was so small and inefficient for the amount of cooking I do. Furthermore, the faucet began constantly leaking. Tim found a double, deep stainless steel sink with a high end faucet and sprayer… $20!

For years we have wanted to build a chicken tractor, or what Justin Rhodes calls a chickshaw. Building a chickshaw is time consuming and the materials cost about $400. To buy an already made chickshaw is anywhere from $500-$1200. Imagine our excitement when we saw a large chickshaw for free! And once again, even though a number of people wanted the chickshaw, the people giving it away gave it to us. When we arrived at their farm, they threw in 3 electric livestock fences! We needed fencing for our goats and soon to be kunekune pigs. We were speechless, completely overcome with thankfulness.

Waiting is hard. I get that. If finances are tight, I encourage you to present your need or want to God and practice waiting. I get so much more than what I asked for when I do. Not only am I overwhelmed by the tender provision from the One who created me, but I am reminded that I am loved, seen, and that I matter to Him. You do too. So I dare you, ask Him to show you how much you mean to Him.

So excited for the “new” sink!

Free chicken coop! Beautiful? Not so much. But nothing that trim and a paint job can’t fix. So thankful!

Free chicksaw!
