It’s still winter here. Yesterday was a perfect day to stay in and make a big batch of chicken bone broth. This morning, we woke up to 11 inches of snow and 11 degrees. Tim and Benjamin jumped up and went out to make sure the chickens and goats are doing well. Using a deep bedding system keeps these little creatures alive and healthy! They literally have about 16 inches of straw and wood chips in their pens. Instead of our normal cleaning, we actually leave the manure in place because composting manure generates heat. Two months ago, our egg supply diminished when the cold, cloudy days hit. Tim took the wood off the south side of the chicken coop and replaced it with greenhouse siding. Within 4 days, our girls were laying again!
